The Amsterdam City Archives is the historical documentation centre of the City of Amsterdam with over 50 kilometres of archives, a historical- topographical collection with millions of maps, drawings, a library and extensive audio-, video- and photo archives. After the Rijksmuseum now also the Municipality of Amsterdam chooses for the ecological solution with our rock wool blocks. Ecologically responsible buffering and infiltration Eight Hydrorock infiltration buffers are built with a joint capacity of 130.000 litres (130 m3). It is a good example of how ecologically, i.e. with as little synthetic fibres as possible, rainwater will be kept outside the sewerage system. The buffers will see to a gradual release of rainwater into the soil. Thus the Municipality of Amsterdam avoids an overload of the sewerage system during downpours. With Hydrorock the groundwater is replenished in a natural way and subsidence and desiccation of the soil is avoided.
